Most members of the legal and medical communities recognize the AMA Guides as the book, now in its Sixth edition, which establishes rules and percentage ratings attendant to an injured worker's permanent impairment. However, the American Medical Association (AMA) actually has other books in its AMA Guides series. In 2016, the AMA published the AMA Guides to Navigating Disability Benefit Systems. It is authored by three physicians (one of whom also has the benefit of a law degree), a psychologist, and a workers' compensation judge.
