Compared with the previous five editions of the Guides, the Sixth Edition requires one to significantly rethink one's approach to using the AMA impairment guidelines. Although some jurisdictions do not use the Guides as a standard physician reference to permanent impairment in regard to disability claims, personal injury, or worker's compensation, approximately 80% recommend use of the Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment.
